News for 4B

-  I hope you are all enjoying the fresh snow.  Please remember fourth graders need to have boots on in order to go in the snow.

-  Last Thursday, we had a new UNH student start working in our classroom.  Her name is Miss Cornwell.  She is studying to be a teacher and will be working until May in our classroom on Thursdays.

- Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered to bring in food or paper goods for the party.  Please remember to send in ingredients with your food, so we can check for food allergies.  Also, I wanted to remind you that students may bring in cards on Thursday for their classmates.  Cards should not be sent in with any types of candy or food due to food allergies.

- We started book groups last week.  Students each have a calendar showing which days their group will meet and what chapters should be done by the time they come to school on these days.  They should also be writing notes with questions or thought to share with their group.

Biblionasium

On Friday, I showed the class part of the website biblionasium.com .  This is a website which was recommended to me by some of the other fourth grade teachers.  It is a place where students and I can recommend books to individual or groups of students in the class.  We will be looking at the website more this week.  Unfortunately, it seems like the website is a little slower when all the kids get on at school, so I have told them they can also recommend books from home.  I am hoping it will work a little quicker at home.

I am happy to see so many students went on bibionasium.com over the weekend to look at it more and to recommend some great books to their classmates.

Partial Quotient Method

Last week our class started working on long division using the Partial Quotients Method.  The students are doing well as we practice this method.  Many have realized how important it is for them to know their multiplication math facts.  I gave students a sheet to keep in their binder with a few examples.  Here is a video of the method if you or your child needs to review the method:

On Thursday, the class was broken into two teams to practice problems using the Promethean Board.  Each student did one step and then passed the marker on to the next member of their team.  We were able to see how we can solve the same problem by doing it in different ways.
