Important Upcoming Dates

It's hard to believe we are beginning the last quarter of the year.  The end of the year is always busy with lots of activities.  Here are some of the important upcoming dates you should mark on your calendar.  Some of the events will have more information coming later.

April 4 and 11- Early Release days for students for parent/teacher conferences
April 23-27 - School vacation
May 1 - Lowell Mills has been rescheduled to this day
May 9 - SMS Wellness Walk
May 11 - Bike to School Day
May 15 - Concord Field Trip
May 23 - Early Release for students
May 24 - Fourth grade BioBlitz in Stratham Hill Park
May 28 - No school
June 4 - Grandparent Lunch
June 8 - Field Day
June 12 - 4B and 4MH present "US Geography" play at 1:30
June 18 - Students last day (if we don't have any more snow days)

Homework for March 26-30

Students should choose at least 2 afternoons during the week and one weekend day to do a whole session of xtramath.org with the Beat the Teacher section.  They can choose which nights they would like to go on and they can always do extra days.  It is very important for students to know their math facts.  If your child does not have access to xtramath then they can practice with flashcards or with a game if you have one that practices the facts.

Reminder: Last week for the STA food drive

Monday (Day 4):
Read for 15 min (Book Group - check calendar)
Math -  Adding with Unlike Denominators
Spelling -  Regular Sort

Tuesday (Day 5):
Read for 15 min (Book Group - check calendar)
Math -  Improper Fractions/Mixed Numbers
Spelling - Regular Sort and record
SS - Study Midwest states and capitals

Wednesday (Day 6):
Read for 15 minutes (Book Group - check calendar)
Math - Subtracting Mixed Numbers
Spelling - Spelling City
SS- Study Midwest states and capitals - quiz next Wed

Thursday (Day 1):
Read for 15 minutes (Book Group - check calendar)
Math: Adding/Subtracting Mixed Numbers
Spelling: Blind Sort
SS- Study Midwest states and capitals - quiz next Wed

Friday (Day 2):
Read for 30 min (Book Group - check calendar)
Math:  xtramath

Students should choose at least 2 afternoons during the week and one weekend day to do a whole session of xtramath.org with the Beat the Teacher section.  They can choose which nights they would like to go on and they can always do extra days.  It is very important for students to know their math facts.  If your child does not have access to xtramath then they can practice with flashcards or with a game if you have one that practices the facts.

Spelling will be for this week and next week since we have had delays and day off.

Book groups start this week.  Check your calendars to see when you are meeting.

Spelling - Cut words and Regular Sort
SS - Southeast states and capitals (map and flashcards are in your binder) -  You will need to be able to locate and label the states with the capitals.  You will be given a list of the capitals.  Spelling for capitals counts and states need to be close enough that I can understand which state you are naming.

Tuesday (Day ):
No School

Wednesday (Day 2):
Read for 15 minutes
Math - Adding Fractions Sheet
Spelling - Spelling City
SS - Southeast states and capitals (map and flashcards are in your binder)

Thursday (Day 3):
Read for 15 minutes
Math -  Subtracting Fractions Sheet
Spelling - Blind Sort
SS - practice Southeast states and capitals - quiz next Wed

Friday (Day 4):
Read for 30 min
Math:  xtramath

Historical Fiction Book Groups

We are starting historical fiction book groups this week.  Students will receive their books and calendars on Monday.  Students meet on days with * and those chapters should be read by the time they get to school on those days.  Also, students should be taking notes to bring to their group meetings with thoughts and questions.
