Class Debate

4B students have been researching about different parts of the Industrial Revolution.  On Friday they used what they have learned to debate whether the Industrial Revolution was a positive or negative time for our country.  Most realized that it was actually both, but they had to chose one side to support.  The two sides shared their reasons and the audience asked questions during the debate.  It was very exciting to see them use everything we have been studying.  We did a class vote after and it was a close vote, but the majority said it was a positive time.

Here are some pictures from the debate:

"Floating" Magnets

Last week we finished up our experiments with magnets.  Students used ring magnets to see if they could make them float on their pencils using what they had learned about how they attract or repel.  Here are a few pictures from the experiment.

Long Division

Here is a few videos to help remind the students how to do the different methods for long division.  Please do not show the kids how to do the traditional method until after it has been shown in school.  We like to show a few different methods and have the students understand the Partial Quotients method so they can understand the traditional method when we get to it.  We should be getting to all of these methods over the next few weeks.

Area Model: (I am going to have them do the subtraction on the side, so they have plenty of room.)

Partial Quotient Method:

Traditional Method:  They really only need to watch to the 8 min mark.
