Old York Field Trip
We had such a great day today on our field trip. I hope your child told you all about everything they learned today. We made Jamaica Biscuits, learned about their cooking, worked with textiles, went to a one room schoolhouse, wrote with a quill pen, and played colonial games. Here are some pictures from our day.
Thank you to all our parents who helped chaperone on this trip!!!

Elapsed Time
We started reviewing telling time last week. We will be working on elapsed time this week. One strategy we will be using to find how much time has passed between a start and end time is using a number line. This is a great video with two kids explaining how to use the number line if your child needs a review after we get started.

Book Groups
We have started book groups at the end of this week during our reading time. The students all received their books on Wednesday the book they will be reading and a calendar showing their meeting days and what chapters they have to have read by the days they meet. I have explained to the students that the days with a * mean they will be meeting and must come with the reading done (example: *Ch 1-3 = chapters 1, 2, and 3 must be read for the day). They should also write down notes with thoughts and questions to bring to their group. They may use time in class to read their books when their group is not meeting, but some of the reading will need to be done at home.
Here is a copy of the calendar in case they forget theirs over the next few weeks.
