Erosion Experiments

We have been learning about erosion in our geology unit over the last two weeks.  Students have worked together to observe stream tables to test if the soil's slope has an impact on the amount of erosion.  We have also looked at what can happen when there's a flood.  This week we have learned ways erosion can be prevented.  Then students worked in groups to create a plan for preventing erosion and then worked together to test it using our stream tables.

We are not starting a new spelling pattern this week, but we will be trying Spelling City during class.  Student can also try the games out at home.  They should log in the same way as they do for their computers except they do not need @sau16.org on their username.

Picturing Writing Techniques

On Friday we learned about different techniques to use when doing watercolors.  We will be starting to do Picturing Writing where students will create winter watercolor paintings for a realistic fiction stories and then they will write their stories looking at the paintings.  The students had fun practicing the techniques.

We could really use any old newspaper you want to donate.

Social Issue Book Groups

We are starting our next book groups next week.  We will be focusing on different social issues, such as, overcoming challenges, bullying, friendships, etc.  each student received their book and a calendar for their group.  The days marked are meeting days and the reading should be done before they get to school on those days.  Students have been strongly encouraged to write notes with thoughts, questions, and predictions to bring to their group meetings.
