Following Mushers
We will be following the Iditarod over the next week or two. The race began on March 1st. Students can check their musher by clicking on this link: Current Standings to see where they are. We will be writing journal entries this week and having a class competition to see whose musher will reach Nome first.

Iditarod Dog Sled Race
We have been talking about the Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Alaska as we read the book Black Star, Bright Dawn as our read aloud each afternoon. The real Iditarod starts the second Saturday of vacation week. Each student is choosing a musher to follow and we will be tracking them through the race and writing journal entries from their point of view. About half of the students chose there mushers today. Here is a list of the mushers already taken. The rest of the students can look on the Iditarod website (link under Social Studies websites) and write down their top 5 picks. Remember to not choose any of the mushers listed below.
