Fun Making Circuits and Finding Equivalent Fractions

We have been so busy in 4B lately.  I had the chance to take some pictures of some things we have been working on.

Yesterday and today we worked on finding equivalent fractions using fraction bars.  Then we looked for any patterns we could see with these fractions.

This afternoon students worked with a partner on learning how to build a circuit in science.  The students were each given two wires, a light bulb, and a battery.  It was pretty exciting as the groups would yell out when they figured out how to light the bulb.  Some groups had to work a little longer, but everyone completed the task.

Here is our first pair to figure out how to get a complete circuit.

Here are some more excited groups (I think I missed taking pictures of a few groups):

Here are some of the drawings done by students of how they made complete circuits.

Reminders

Permission slips for St. Jude Math-a-thon are due February 18th (optional).  Students can start collecting sponsors and their math booklets will be here after February vacation.

If your child would like to bring in valentines for their classmates they can on Friday.  They should bring in one for everyone if they are choosing to bring valentines.  Also, please do not include any food with the cards.

Our next couple of math units will be on fractions.  I have strongly encouraged students to go on iXL.com (through our blog page) and start practicing some of the lessons on fractions.  They might want to start with second and third grade lessons to help them review previously learned skills.
