Building Electrical Circuits

Last week we continued our energy unit in science and worked on building electrical circuits.  We will continue working on them this week.  Students worked with partners to find ways to light their light bulb when they were given a battery, 2 wires, and a light bulb.  We had about half of the groups figure it out last week and I am sure the rest will figure it out tomorrow.  Students had to record in their science notebooks ways that worked and ways that didn't.

This was our first group to figure out how to build a circuit.

Long Division Videos

We will be starting long division by learning the Partial Quotient method at the end of the week and into next week.  There will be a helpful chart with the division methods in your child's binder.  Remember we are trying to find the the largest multiple of the divisor to put over on the right.

We will be working on the Tradition Method for long division after we do Partial Quotients. Click below to watch the video.  You might be able to just watch only the first part of this video to help you.

Social Issue Book Groups

We will be starting social issue book groups at the end of this week during our reading time.  The students will all receive their books and a calendar showing their meeting days and what chapters they have to have read by the days they meet.  I will be explaining to the students the days with a * mean their group will be meeting and must come with the reading done (example:  *Ch 1-3 = chapters 1, 2, and 3 must be read for the day).  They should also write down notes with thoughts and questions to bring to their group. They may use time in class to read their book when their group is not meeting, but some of the reading will need to be done at home.

Here is a copy of the calendar in case they forget theirs over the next few weeks.
