Homework for Week of December 18-22

Students should choose at least 2 afternoons during the week and one weekend day to do a whole session of xtramath.org with the Beat the Teacher section.  They can choose which nights they would like to go on and they can always do extra days.  It is very important for students to know their math facts.  If your child does not have access to xtramath then they can practice with flashcards or with a game if you have one that practices the facts.

Reminder the Fourth Grade Book Swap is happening on Friday.  Bring in up to 3 used books any day this week which are grade level appropriate and in good condition and you can choose some new books on Friday.

Feed the Hungry

2018 STA Holiday Food Drive

In lieu of teachers gifts for the December holidays, Stratham teachers would greatly appreciate a donation to St. Vincent dePaul in order to to help feed the hungry in the Seacoast Region.  Checks should be made out to St. Vincent de Paul. (please send donations in by December 20th!)

Again this year, the nonperishable food collection portion of the STA Holiday Food Drive will be moved into the leaner times of late winter. We will hold the Spring Food Drive in March.  Please look for forthcoming details.

Thank you for your generosity,
The Stratham STA

Erosion Prevention

Students worked with their groups to test out their erosion prevention plans.  We knew we would know the method was successful if they had less sediments in our collection dish than last week's experiments.  Some of the teams were more successful than others, but we were able to think of ways we might be able to modify our designs.

Erosion Experiments

Last week we studied how erosion happens with water. Everyone had a job to do and then they recorded observations in their notebooks.  We then shared what we noticed as a class.

Then we looked at what can happen when a flood occurs.

This week we will be trying to find ways to prevent erosion or the amount of damage caused by erosion.
