Old York Field Trip

We had an awesome day last Thursday at Old York.  The students were so well behaved and had so much fun learning about colonial life.  The class was separated into three groups and then rotated between three areas.  The areas were cooking, textiles, and games.  We had lunch and then went to the one room schoolhouse for a lesson.  Here are some pictures of the day:

Fantastic Voyage

We worked with partners today to see if we would have made a good governors coming over to start a new colony.  The students took a quiz and read historical information about the decisions these men had to make. There were so many great discussions about how to answer the questions and the results. Here is the link if you would like to try it.  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/colonialhouse/history/voyage.html

Learning Watercolor Techniques

We learned 6 different watercolor techniques which we will eventually use to make our own books.  Here are some pictures of us using some of these methods and some of our final products.  The kids loved it and their paintings are so beautiful.  We could use any old newspaper if you happen to have any.

Elapsed Time with a Number Line

We started learning a lot about elapsed time this week.  One strategy we used to find how much time has passed between a start and end time is using a number line.  I found this great video with two kids explaining how to use the number line.

Playing Jeopardy

Last week we reviewed for our math test by playing Jeopardy on one of the days.  The kids had to answer each question even if it wasn't their team's question, so everyone was busy reviewing lots of problems.  I heard so many great comments about how it should be called Mathopardy and how much fun the game was.  I was pleased to hear so many of the students cheering on their teammates.
