NECAP Testing Starts and Pen Pal Letters Arrive

The fourth graders will take the Reading NECAP test on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week. Next week we will take the Math test on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  There is no way to study for these tests, but students will be encouraged to read carefully and use all their test taking strategies they already use.  I know they will all do great!  I have said they could bring mints or gum if they would like to have them during testing.

The students were very excited for their first pen pal letters to arrive last week.  We were also excited to have the cart of Google Chromebooks arrive.  We worked on rough draft letters back to our pen pals and some students started typing their second drafts.

Tracking Hurricanes

4B has started tracking the Atlantic hurricanes of 2013.  Students learned last week about longitude and latitude.  It has been a slow start for hurricanes this year, but we had our first tropical storm to track on Monday.  Each student has a tracking map and we will be looking at NOAA's website to get the coordinates of the storms locations each day.   I was excited today to hear the kids talking about how Tropical Storm Humberto had turned into a hurricane when they walked into class today.  I forgot to take pictures of the kids plotting the points, so I will have to get some later in the week.
